Next ISSR conference will be held in Melbourne, Australia, 3-7 July, 2017 under the title Religion, Cooperation, and Conflict in Diverse Societies.
Religion’s role in conflict has been the subject of recent media and academic scrutiny, while religion’s part in peace building has received comparatively less attention. This conference analyzes the multiple ways in which religion may contribute to fostering cooperation and conflict in diverse societies. Religion can be a source of tension and conflict just as it can be a resource for resolving societal tensions. And cooperation and conflict on a societal level may have themselves important impacts on the emergence or diminishing of religious diversity and vitality. Some of the questions examined at the conference are :
These questions, and others like them, will be the focus of our 2017 conference. We welcome papers on these and other topics of interest to sociology of religion and the social sciences of religion more generally.
The call for thematic session proposals is now open. You may propose a Thematic session, Working Group session, New Researchers' Forum, and Author Meets Critics session HERE.
Before doing so, please consult the instructions for registration at the online conference system and for submitting proposals.

If you are co-authoring a submission for a session, and you want to add author(s) your will need to click Add Author and enter general information on your co-author(s) such as their First name, Last name, Email and Affiliation.
The following step is to submit your proposal by entering the title of your presentation and then the abstract (200-250 words).
However, since we require bilingual proposal submissions please DO NOT click on the button Save and Continue yet. First, please go to the top of the page and in the category Form Language, choose the secondary language, from the drop down menu (if you have started the registration process in English you are now required to select French or if you have started the registration in French you are now required to select English). As you proceed the Title and Abstract fields will be empty. Do not worry, the system has saved your entry. Now, insert the Title and Abstract in a secondary language. Only after completing your secondary language submission you may proceed by clicking Save and Continue. With that, your submission will be completed.
