Richard Traunmüller is a junior professor of empirical democracy research in the department of social sciences at Goethe University Frankfurt. He earned a degree in the social sciences from Humboldt University of Berlin (2007) and PhD in political science from University of Konstanz (2011). Before coming to Frankfurt he spent a year as senior lecturer in quantitative political sociology at the University of Berne, a year as Postdoctoral Fellow at the Mannheim Centre for European Social Research (MZES) of the University of Mannheim, and a year as research fellow in the Department of Government at the University of Essex. His work focuses on democratic challenges of religious demographic change from a strictly quantitative-empirical and comparative perspective and has been published in leading international journals such as Comparative Political Studies, Comparative Politics, European Journal of Political Research, European Sociological Review, and Political Analysis, amongst others. He was awarded the 2011 SOEP-Prize of the German Institute of Economic Research for an article on religion and social integration and is part of the expert team of the Bertelsmann Religion Monitor.
