David Voas is Professor and Head of Department of Social Science, University College London. He previously held chairs at the universities of Manchester and Essex. He has been an associate member of Nuffield College, Oxford, since 2013. His degrees are from London School of Economics and the University of Cambridge.
David is involved in leading the European Values Study (EVS) as chair of its Theory Group, a member of the Executive Committee and National Programme Director for Great Britain.
He is a member of the editorial boards of the British Journal of Sociology and the Journal for the Scientific Study of Religion. He is co-director of British Religion in Numbers (www.brin.ac.uk), which has been accorded the status of Academy Research Project by the British Academy.
David is also a member of council for the Society for the Scientific Study of Religion.
His articles have appeared in the American Sociological Review, American Journal of Sociology, Annual Review of Sociology, European Sociological Review and elsewhere. In 2015, his paper on ‘Modernization and the gender gap in religiosity’ (co-authored with Siobhan McAndrew and Ingrid Storm) was awarded the first ISSR Best Article Award.
